As some of you may already know from experience, I have a bad habit
of not answering e-mail. As in, ever. So, I apologize in advance if
you are trying to get in contact with me.
With that in mind, it's a good to go through here to see if you can't
find the answers to your questions before you e-mail me. It might
save you a lot of frustration.
About
the site/myself:
Q:
I e-mailed you and you didn't respond!
A: As mentioned above and in the 'contact' section of the site, I'm
awful with e-mail. Aw-ful. If you're really looking for an answer,
your best bet is probably to either send the e-mail again, or send
it to a different e-mail address of mine. Also, both commenting on
my livejournal
or leaving a message for me on the forums are also a good, fast way
to get ahold of my attention.
Q:
I sent you fan art and you didnt respond/put it in the gallery!
A: I'm sorry, it takes anywhere from 3-8 months for me to update the
guest art gallery. If I did not respond to your e-mail about fanart,
SEND IT AGAIN. I've forced myself into a habit of not downloading
an image until the e-mail has been replied to. If you can't get a
responce from me, or your e-mails are bouncing (which isn't uncommon
with large files) try and post it to the forum. That'll definitely
get my attention.
Q:
I sent you an e-mail and it bounced back!
A: This is probably because you're using my old e-mail account, the
kaido(at)evilemail one. I am no longer using that e-mail address!
The account filled up so quickly with spam no regular e-mail to make
it through! Send e-mail to either abadon(at)gmail.com,
or ygo9187(at)rit.edu.
Q:
You put up my fanart and it is mislabeled and/or does not link to
my website!
A: Go ahead and e-mail me. If that doesn't catch my attention and
the information is still wrong, I suggest following the steps for
the first question. (see above.) Livejournal and Forums are a good,
quick way to get ahold of me.
Q:
Can I link to you?
A: Of COURSE you can! Why would anyone ask this? Please link me! Banners
for the comic can be found here.
Q:
Can you link to me?
A: Ehh, that's a difficult one. I encourage people to link me to their
webcomics, but I won't necessarily link to them. I only link to comics
that I either read regularly, or whose creators I'm friends with the
personally. The easiest way to get me to link to you is by sending
me fanart. I'll link to your website when I put it up in the gallery.
Either that, or become my friend.
Q:
OMG, DRAW SOMETHING 4 ME.
A: No.
Q:
Will you draw something for me if I draw something for you?
A: I'm not too proliferate with the fanart that I turn out for other
people, it's usually spur-of-the-moment. I also don't do trade pictures
often, and by saying 'not often,' I mean 'hardly ever.' Feel free
to contact me about doing a trade picture, but there are no promises
or guarantees on anything and I need a sample of your art before I
can say anything. And if I say 'no' to a trade picture, it doesn't
mean I hate you or I think your art sucks.
Q:
Will you draw me something if I pay you?
A: ... maybe. I don't have that much time as it is. If I'm taking
comissions, there will most likely be a blurb on the main page of
the site. It is most often only in the summers when I am desperate-for-money.
Q:
Will you draw a guest comic for me?
A: This probably sounds hypocritical of my but I usually enjoy doing
guest comics, if I have the time. But only if I know the characters
already. I'm not going to be willing to go through all of your archives
to get a feel for your character's personalities... but if I'm linking
to your comic, I'll probably be willing to give you a comic.
About
the comic:
Q:
How do you draw/color the comic?
A: All comics are drawn on regular 8.5"x11" white computer
paper with a standard .5 mechanical pencil. (Because I'm a lazy ass
and hate inking-- I mean, it gives the art a more organic look...)
Everything's scanned into Photoshop 7 at 300dpi, full color (even
though it should be in greyscale) and then colored with a tablet.
(I have an old Wacom Intuos.) That's the general overview of it.
Q:
Do all of the characters in Fallen belong to you?
A: I own all of the characters in the comic sans one, Gabriel MacRae.
He is the brainchild of my best friend, Megan, and has been loaned
to me because I needed a character to introduce a bit of exposition.
(He's a good sport about it.) You can tell that he's no character
of mine becase first, he has curly hair, which is an awful pain to
draw, and is supposed to speak in a scottish brogue, which is an awful
pain to write.
Q:
How do you pronounce 'Faustus?'
A: I've always pronounced it as "FAW-stus," where the Fau
sound rhymes with 'gnaw' or 'caw.' But apparently the proper way to
pronounce it is "FOW-stus," where the Fau sound rhymes with
"cow" or "now." So, I suppose you can go either
way.
Q:
Are any of the characters based on yourself/people you know?
A: Strangely, no. None of the characters from the comic are based
off of actual people. However, Tobias and Void were loosely based
off of my childhood companions, Tobias the stuffed tiger and Void
the pewter post-it dragon. Several of the characters in the comic
have been recycled from past projects of mine, namely Raitaro, Quetzal,
Kosai, and a few other characters that will be introduced later in
the story.
Q:
Are you planning on doing this as a profession?
A: Actually, I'm currently majoring in animation at RIT, so yes, I'm
kind of planning to do this as a profession. But on a slightly larger
scale. If the animation carreer falls through, or if I don't like
it, sequential art is definitely the way to do for me. I really love
doing comics.
Q:
Are you planning on printing a hardcopy of the comic?
A: I get this question all the time, but I really haven't thought
about it much. I might consider it eventually, but right now I'm barely
half way through the comic and I'd much rather published a finished
work than a unfinished one. Ask me that question in about 3 years.
Eh-heh.
Q:
How did you start out doing the comic?
A: Fallen actually started out as a project to force myself to draw
humans. (I had mainly been drawing only dragons and assorted anthropomorphic
creatures up until then.) It would be a short comic to help me build
up the skills to start a comic based on a story that I have since
deemed 'long, stupid and not worth my time.' Fallen then grew to become
the several-year-project-monstrosity that you see today.
Q:
How long to you plan to work on the comic?
A: Right now, I have the story of the comic to take place in 7 chapters,
the last being a relatively short epilogue. So far, it's taken me
a year to do each chapter. So, that equates to about four more years
of comic-making until this baby is completed. Oy.
Q:
Why do Void's ears get bigger and wings get smaller over the course
of the comic? Does it mean anything? Are you trying to tell us something?
A: It's called artistic progression.
Q:
Do you have any other comic projects or collaborations planned for
the future?
A: Maaybe.
